I've had my Yorkie pup for just 2-1/2 weeks now. The first three nights he cried in his crate. On the third night I thought I was going to give in and let him out and into my bed - but somehow I held my resolve only by thinking if I let him out, then I've failed in crate training. So I did not let him out that night (the worst of the three nights) and only got maybe 1 hour of sleep. They say it's darkest before the dawn... and it was.
Since then he has NOT cried in his crate for more than 1 minute and very quietly. I simply ignore any whining when we go to bed. I say "good night Mac" and that's it for the night. I read my book for about 1/2 hour and then it's lights out.
I do leave him with a blanket and a kong. I don't trust any other toy in there with him while I'm at work.
Best wishes with your Yorkie - do keep us posted.
