Joey had a real problem with his anal glands the first 8 months. The first symptom was the scooting behavior. We took him to the vet, who expressed the glands, and said that some dogs just don't push hard enough after defecating to completely empty the glands. He showed me the proper way to express them and how to tell if they are enlarged. I don't think I would feel good about having a groomer do it because some groomers are hired with little or no training and learn on the job. It's very important that the glands be expressed properly because you can push the fluid up further and cause an impaction, which can lead to a serious infection. This may be a one time thing only or it could continue, with Joey, he outgrew; it and has been fine the last year with no more scooting.
