I have had a Prius since 2005 and I love it, Generation II. I average 50 mpg overall. The tank holds about 11 gallons. I just filled it up yesterday, put 7 gallons in and it cost me $28.00 (paid $4.03/gal for regular gas). I get about 400 miles per fill up give or take, as I never wait to fill until nearly empty. There is a definite learning curve for getting the best mileage out of the Prius. The re-design of the Prius with improved MPG has been delayed until at least 2010. We anticipate the average MPG with the new design will be 90-95 mpg. I have no experience with E85 and have never seen it for sale in the Seattle area. If you are in urgent need of a car and are serious about a Prius, I would suggest buying now (new or used) and then trade it in in a couple of years for the new design. The Prius holds its value very well. I suspect there will be a long wait list for the Generation III Prius. For more info than you could ever want on the Prius and other Hybrids, check out
