My Emily Kate has dry eye. Each morning her eyes are filled with "eye boogers" and a lot of the time they will be shut. We have had her to the vet and they have done tests to see how much tears she actually produces.
She is on an ointment (compound that has to be mixed at the drug store) three times a day and also genteal drops which are over the counter artificial tears. This for her is a genetic condition which the breeder said had never shown up in any of her dogs. I am so sorry it is showing up only in my Emily Kate. The vet said that down the road a better surgery may be developed before it becomes necessary to do something other than medicine. She does not recommend surgery now as they take a gland from their mouth and put it in their eye. Every time a dog sees food it starts crying. I don't want that for my girl. Neither do I want her to loose her sight and end up blind. The vets tests her carefully each time we go. Our vet thinks that within the next l0 years much improvements will be made for treating dry eye. Good luck with your baby.
