If you want something REALLY simple, why not start with a fringed bandana.....
Measure your furbutts neck(s) and then draw a triangle on a piece of paper -- make two ends longer so that you can tie a nice bow. This is your pattern. Cut two pieces out, pin them together with the WRONG sides together (one right side will face up the other will face down) sew a 1/2 seam all the way around and there you have it. You can fringe the bandana out or just let it fringe naturally.
