Jake learned fetch in about 10 min. the first day we brought him home. We weren't even trying to teach him fetch at the time, it just kinda happened.
My husband and I were in the floor playing with him and letting him explore and get used to his new surroundings. He LOVES toys so I just tossed a little toy and he ran after it and brought it back. At first, he wouldn't give it to me or drop it, but then he caught onto it really quick. He loves to play fetch, and will play for hours!
We used lots of praise and Cheerios as treats.
