I think you'll get a variety of answers on this. It depends on the dog. One of my boys started getting a little silver at about 10 mos. He will be 2 in July and is almost completely silver and gold. The other is 9 mos. and has very little silver, except for on the top of his head. His body is black with maybe a few strands of silver. I think he will stay black.
