No, I don't think this will confuse them, I agree it's the smell. If they pee, on something that you don't want them to pee on, be sure and use and enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solutions to prevent them from returning. However, never use an enzyme cleaner on washable pee pads, just regular detergent, no bleach and no fabric softener, as this lessens a fabric's absorbency. That would be funny if they could tell us which prints they thought were pretty.
