You don't ever have to go to 2x daily if you don't want to.
For most average sized and smaller Yorkies, I think feeding at least 3x a day is best because their livers can only store so much glucose at once.
Now they can do just fine being fed twice but some may also do better if they are fed 3x. If your pup is very small I would feed it at least 4x a day for now.
If you are going to go to 2x, I would take Wylie's Mom's advice.
