Most kids don't ever have to worry about their weight but that is not the case w/my two. They would put weight on very easy if we allowed them to. I never deprive them of the things kids want (there kids and they should be aloud to eat the things kids love) but I do try to make everything I give them lower in fat then you would have to.

I hardly ever fry anything, I always use low fat or fat free cheese. I give them the 100 calorie snacks (there are so many options w/those) and soda is only for restaurants.

MY son w/not eat much in the veggie deptartment either but what he will eat I offer often. My daughter will eat almost anything.

Just try and give him things in moderation, Mcdonalds is okay but just not all the time. We have a free night............you get whatever you want. For us its tonight because we have a very busy after school schedule so my son will pick Mozzeralla Sticks (He always does!)
But they are really good the rest of the week.
Walk around your grocery store, you will get great ideas!
Good luck and let us know how you do
