I would not let them be out unsupervised. Since they can get out of the pen, I'd put them in seperate crates. Sounds like you have them potty trained to pads. If that is working for you, skip the crate training concept for potty training. My puppy, Trace does not have full run of the house unless he's supervised. When we go out, he goes into his crate. He's actually likes his crate and will go in volunteerily....sometimes he goes in to sleep or takes toys in there to play with. Don't feel bad about putting them in crates, it works and other than some paper....at our house NOTHING has been chewed up or destroyed...
