I know there was one time when I cut around you and hit you with a turtle shell at the end of the race and I felt bad! I ended up being like 2nd? If it wasn't me then it would be you.
I've been playing mario kart since it came out wayyyyyyy back and I've unlocked mostly everything now. No worries!
You were playing perfectly fine. It's just hard when items are coming at you from every direction.
Some tips:
Drift + boost....always helps
Don't forget to do tricks after a jump!
