Because of the severity of the problem and the fact that he like homecooked, I would talk to a nutritionist and do that. If he is refusing this food totally, he needs to eat something. I'd try the canned L/D first if you don't want to cook. Liver compromised dogs need to eat at least 3-4 times a day, so I would definately not wait til later to feed him.
