Start out with only a few blocks for a couple of weeks and then just add a block each week. I would walk in early morning and evening when it's cooler. Their pads can actually peel if they are walked too far first time out or on hot asphalt. Invest in a treadmill if you don't have one so you both can walk on rainy days and during the winter when it's just too cold to get out.
