We are in Michigan..so basically the same kind of environment... We have fleas & ticks... I get freaked out by them too so I am totally with you on that!!
We use Revolution. Among other things... fleas, heartworm, the American dog tick and mites including ear mites and the Sarcoptic mange mite in dogs and fleas, heartworm, hookworms, roundworms and ear mites in cats.
We've had good luck...no fleas in 3 years!!! Yahhooooo
