Kennel cough...or something else? Hello,
I'm wondering if any of you have experienced this...Cayo is 8 1/2 months, 4 pounds, and she's developed a dry cough that sounds like gagging. Every few times she does this she'll "throw up" a small amount of clear or white mucous. We took her to the vet 2 days after it started (last Monday). The vet gave her antibiotics and a cough suppressant, and said it was kennel cough. She's been vaccinated and hasn't been around any other dogs in close quarters - just our regular sniffing of her friends during walks.
Anyways, she's been on the antibiotics for almost a week now, and it's actually getting worse. She coughs/gags about 10-12 times a day, with something coming up 6-8 of those times. It's worse when she first wakes up (and often this wakes her up), or when she's resting. It doesn't happen when we are walking or playing. She otherwise is not acting any different - very playful, eating fine, walks great...
Last night she woke up, had a coughing/gagging fit and threw up - a lot of vomit, not just the small amount of clear or white stuff. This was her dinner, a bit of grass - pretty much what I've seen her throw up before if she is car sick or something. That's the first time the coughing/gagging has prompted an all-out throwing up.
We called the vet and he said bring her in on Monday. He still thinks it's kennel cough. I'm just really concerned that this is something worse than kennel cough. Does this sound like anything you've experienced? Thanks for your comments!! |
