I've always had my pets microchipped the first time they visit the vets, none of them have ever even flinched! The needle is similar to type used in hospitals when setting up a drip/giving blood. They don't bother me but I'm sure some people think they're awful! I know people who have had small pets done ferret kits,baby rabbits and such and they have been fine also.
