This sounds exactly like our house....we have just recently let our girls roam the back of house while we are home but we do it for short periods of time, like an hour and then shut the gates...we have been making it longer and longer and they seem to be doing better and better...at first they were always finding something, under beds or in baskets but the more they roam the less they destroy...we still have the gates up so that we have some control over what is going on, but like you we want to get rid of the gates evenutally....and I think with time the girls will get better about it!!

I would start with a few minutes and then call her back...that way she learns that when you call her, she needs to come and find you!! This worked for us, maybe it will for you...good luck!!
