 little houdini
Toby did that when he was a puppy. First it was the playpen. I don't think he ever stayed in it (and he was only 9 weeks old when I got him). He just climbed over it. So, I got a baby gate -- that of course he chewed the plastic and got out. I then got an all wood one. The bars weren't close enough so he just ran right out. So, I got some wire mesh and attached that. He still got out somehow. Finally, I just gave up, and he got the run of the house. Luckily, he never did any major damage. I almost changed his name to little houdini, as he always figured out how to get out of things. He even got out of his carrier on an airplane -- and ended up about ten rows back. It's not a fun thing to get woken up with an announcement -- "If anyone has lost a small dog, please ring your flight attendent button." (He was about 6 months old on that one).
