 bad owners, mean dogs
Hi, There are LOTS of Pits in and around my town. On my block alone there are 5. I have to admit only one makes me nervous while the others are very friendly to dogs and people. There is also a pair of doberman pinchers across the street who are the sweetest dogs (other than my own) that I know. Therefore, in my experience, it really IS the owner and not the breed. That is not to say that some breeds don't need more training and the right upbringing than others might, and honestly, if there was a strange pit running around I wouldn't approach it when I might approach a dog of another breed. The only actually aggressive dog in my very dog friendly neighborhood is a 3lb chihuahua. I thing the biggest problem is that some people DO use their dog as a status symbol and think that if they have a tough/mean dog that makes them tough, but in reality all it really does is prove that they are stupid. |
