Oh Patti, I am so sorry to hear about little Cali
How is she today? Does she seem any better? I wanted to tell you that Tatum is on allergy meds as well and it is REALLY helping her. It has brought her itching down I'd say 95% and it honestly doesn't seem like it makes her anymore tired than usual....maybe a TAD, but nothing at all major. She still plays, runs around, etc.
She is on 10 mg's of Hydroxyzine. The pills are cut in half (of course the vet does this) and she gets 2 halves a day (equal to one pill a day in total). Tatum has been on this medication for I think 4 and 1/2 months now and she has had absolutely no problems with it what so ever. Perhaps you could ask your vet about them and see if he could prescribe some for Cali?
The only thing is Tatum HATES them. I can't even stick it down her throat, she ALWAYS manages to get it out somehow. I have to hide it in her food (she is on Raw, so it's easy) and on the days that she eats her kibble, I just hide the pill in a little piece of cheese and she takes it fine.
