Mine are by no means weaned at 4 weeks, I just start introducing them to ground up dry food at that age so it is available if they want it. They just start licking it and eat small amounts the first week or so. I just feel if a bitch is trying to nurse 4 to 6 puppies, it is asking to much of her and I try to help. With small litters, 1 or 2 pups, it is not usually necessary to start them that early.
