Hmmm, I guess I don't know a scientifically proven answer, but I personally put a bow in my yorkie's hair when he was just 12 weeks old. He has beautiful topknow hair so it didn't do any damage. I think the key is to make sure it isn't in too tight and that you take it out gently so as not to pull out any hair that may be caught in the band.
