IMO it takes until 24 before they realize that MAYBE you might know something. Until then it is ME, ME, and ME. Even if my child has been the most respectful and productive teenager and then college student, it still doesn't guarantee that he/she will remain that way as an adult. Free will reigns supreme. But I cannot feel responsible for my child's choices. It's a destroyer of inner peace. It has to be all given to a higher power. That's the only recourse because I am not able to make choices for my loved one. Their mistakes ARE their mistakes. Now credit is another story if it is a teenager. They live only for today. Not sure how to handle that and still make the child responsible. Money issues have never been a problem with our children, it's been other things. Many blessings to you as a mother. It's a tough job---the most difficult because it never ends.
