I was not happy but a level 1 isn't to bad. Well 3 weeks later we went back for the next shot and got the older vet. He saw the LP diagnosis and felt his knees and said this dog does not have LP. I don't know what he felt but Ozzy's knees are clear. I was really happy but a bit disappointed in the other vet.
So anyway..I was worried about Ozzy's having not lost any baby teeth when I brought him to be neutered. Well when I checked him in the young vet met with us and was going to be the surgeon I had requested the older vet and AGAIN they gave me the young one. Well I had to do the surgery that day for many reasons..I asked him to check his teeth and he did. He told me that Ozzy had all his adult teeth! I was shocked and asked him "even the canines??? I didn't see any teeth come out and I had been watching closely!" He said yes even the canines I probably vacuumed them up and did not notice. I was really happy to hear this as I didn't want to have to bring him back and have teeth pulled in a few months. I told him again I was shocked are you sure and he said yes.
Ok so saturday 3 of Ozzy's little fromt teeth fell out!!!!!!!
I don't think he had lost ANY baby teeth at the time the vet looked. I mean those little ones are the first ones out right? The canines are the last..
So I'm kind of upset that this vet was so wrong and even after I asked him to double check he still said they were adult teeth. I really have lost some faith in this practice. Do you think I should call and speak with the older vet and tell him? I hope my Baby doesn't need to go under AGAIN to remove teeth now What do you all think? I will definately not see the young vet again that's for sure, but should I let the practice owner know about the second mistake this young vet made??? |
You pay the bill and you have a right to the vet you want. You requested the older vet and there should not have been any problem with getting him. Just because they have a young vet there doesn't mean you have to use him. I would definitely talk with the older vet and tell him exactly what you just told us and that you are unhappy about it. Young vets make mistakes, but one in practice should know an LP when he feels one and he certainly should know baby teeth from adult teeth. The older vet should know what this young guy is doing, or not doing, as the case may be. This young vet may cause some real damage to a dog or misdiagnose something serious and cause harm to a dog. I'm pretty particular when it comes to my furkids and if someone is setting himself up as a vet, he better come through!
Some years ago, the vets I use got a new young vet, a young woman. She saw my Lacy once and did a painful internal exam that was not necessary. Lacy had a vaginal infection and a swab for a culture would have done it. I was not happy and they knew it and I never saw her again. She didn't stay there long, so I wondered if there were other complaints. My Lacy has been afraid of vets ever since then (she wasn't quite a year old) and at 11 years old, I don't think she's going to get over it. I am very particular about which vet sees my dogs and since I'm paying, I feel like I have that right. If they started switching vets on me or not giving me the one I want, I'd change vets right quick.
