They should be able to tell the difference in teeth and he should have been suspicious because you said you didn't see any of them come in.

Yes, I would call the older vet and if my dog had to go under again to get teeth removed (which I would be very upset about), the older vet better be doing it and the anesthesia and surgery time better be free.
