Hello all, I have just found this forum. I have been trying to get some advice about my new boy. BACKGROUND!! I have always had dogs, mostly big. Due to square footage restraints many years ago I went for miniature dauchshunds. My first, little Lupie, no bigger than a handful, after her came Bratwurst, much bigger than a handful. Lupie was my heart, soul and joy for sixteen years. One year ago she left me and I still cry, four months later at a ripe age of fourteen Bratty followed. Both had emergency back surgeries when they were young so I decided never to bring that heart break again. I waited a while after their deaths, but you know, with a geriatric dog sometimes them falling asleep forever in a sunbeam is a blessing, and both of mine did just that (thanks kids!) I really wanted a Frenchy but due to financial restraints I decided on a yorkie (mean?? No just another choice) My stepmother had the cutest yorkie when I was a kid, Serendipity. Her legs were too short, her back was too long, her hair was too soft and we loved her to death! So I decided that was what I wanted.
Introducing Rambeau! He didn't seem to be that small when I got him but he is only up to a whopping 3 lbs, however he is healthy and happy. He is 9 months old and already went through a major growth spurt. He had a complete set of double teeth. Scary!! he looked like a shark! When I got him fixed, I had fourteen teeth pulled which included two perm. incisors. He has been going through 'ball therapy" since then and his canines are spreading out to fit his little mouth. I love this guy! Unfortunately he is not the lap lover Lupie was and I miss that. He is always into something and would prefer to be on his own instead of on my lap. Is this because he is a boy? Or is it the breed? I couldn't get Lupie out of my lap. I know that yorkies are very independent since they are terriers.
We are going for a beach trip in a week and I have bought him much. A life preserver, quilted wrap if he gets chilled, new collapsible kennel and a custom sling to carry my giant in (camouflage) I couldn't find a bathing suit that suited him

I would love to give him a puppy cut before going but I can't find any good directions for doing so. My hubby and I used to trim our springers and I trim animals at work so me and clippers are old friends. I am a little hesitant to dig in though, 95% of his body is hair. Should I just bring him to a groomer? I don't want them sedating him or being harsh, if anyone hurt him . . .

Do people who groom yorkies use comb guides? I have a bunch of those at work that I could use on him. I have many grooming questions but I will post them later, I have droned on long enough. Again hello from Melissa and Rambeau!
