You've gotten some great information here. The first thing that came to my mind is that you should get her a "gift" basket that includes some quality dog food, some suggested reading material, and maybe a training video. It isn't like she's had the dog forever, so you could just present it as, "I've been collecting items to give to you for your puppy. I hope you like the things I've purchased." I'd encourage your fiance to contribute to the basket so that you aren't bearing the total cost and because it may be easier for her to take from the 2 of you jointly. After all, what mom doesn't like presents from their kids?
