I know that some dogs tie more than once during a heat. My question is how do you know how many times is safe to tie? What I mean is, say 2-3 puppies result in the first tie (but, of course, no way to tell), then 2-3 more result in a second tie. How do you keep from the dog having too many puppies for her size? |
The dog will not have too many puppies for her body. Her body will reabsorb the extra egss/embryos and take the others to term.
It doesn't really matter how many times a dog will tie concerning number of puppies. They can have the same number of puppies from one tie as they can from 3.
However it is wise not to let them breed all day every day as the male needs time for his sperm count to come back up. If you breed him everyday his sperm count won't be very good which makes it all pointless.
