LAS CRUCES — The owner of two pit bulls that allegedly attacked and killed a Yorkshire Terrier in the Four Hills area has been cited for unrestrained animals, police spokesman Dan Trujillo said. police said.
About 9 p.m. Friday, two pit bulls came into Jan Madrid's back yard and viciously attacked her daughter's Yorkshire Terrier, Scrappy. The attack took place while the family watched, unable to intervene for fear of their own safety, she said.
Las Cruces police were called to the address in the 3300 block of Neptune Drive, according to police reports. The Yorkie was killed and the yard damaged during what Madrid said was a hour-long battle between the two pit bulls and three animal control officers.
Trujillo said animal control officers located the pit bulls, which he described as being "more elusive than aggressive." The animals were taken to Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley where the owner claimed the dogs on Sunday and was cited, Trujillo said. Trujillo said officers have since followed-up with the dogs' owner to make sure the animals are secure. Police have not released the name of the dogs' owner.

This story really gets me that they did nothing about those dogs, if they killed once they will kill again and again if they get the chance.
