litter size I do think bone structure is very important when it comes to whelping. I do not know if it has anything to do with litter size. The dam ovulates a certain number of eggs, some do not implant, some may die soon after and are reaborbed..never being aware they were there. A bitch may ovulate 6 eggs, 6 eggs are fertilized, 1 does not implant and dies, another is reaborbed at 2 weeks gestation..so the 6 eggs turn into 4 Yorkie babies in the end. I do like a line of free whelpers who have at least 4 pups and some are fairly predictable, but others are not.
I have had stud service clients ask me to breed their female 3 times, because that is how many pups they want. If only it were so simple. lOL |
