The most common mistake is to overfeed bitches during early pregnancy and underfeed during lactation....For the first 6 weeks of pregnancy we feed the normal amount of normal maintenance diet.


The last 3 weeks of pregnancy we gradually increase their food by about 25%...We will sometimes add some quality canned food, or extra protein in the form of eggs, chees, chicken...We never give a calcium supplement before pups are born...We start our moms on Calsorb during whelping until weaning...

You do not want mom to get fat...It will make whelping more difficult for her and fat pups are more difficult for mom to deliver...
