Yes, this is the spray you want to stop a serious dog attack by a pit, etc. The milder citronella spray you can buy at Pet Smart may deter a less threatening dog, but this is the stuff you want to stop a truly vicious dog attack. Citronella is used to keep mosquitoes away and not strong enough to stop a dog intent on the kill.
It stings like crazy, but does no permanent damage. Even if Sammy got some in his eyes, it could save his life. It's got a very directed stream, though, so it's unlikely you'd hit Sammy.
