You might check on some of the wine shops in your area too; a lot of them offer free wine tastings~ even some of the nicer grocery stores have 'wine rooms" now too and have tastings. It's really not all that complicated once you've gotten a few basics down and found some wines that you like! It seems like there's so much to know and to learn, but once you get started, it's really fun and interesting. If you have a kind of small, privately owned wine shop nearby, make friends with the owner and ask questions; I've learned a lot from them! Good luck! I wish that Andrea Immer still had her show on TV; it was really great~ I think it was called "pairings" on fineliving. She also had one on called Simply Wine.
