ALL dogs shed to a certain degree. Even all the non-shedding dogs, shed, but so little that's it isn't really noticed most of the time. The puppies will shed that cotton type fuzz baby coat for awhile.
I wouldn't use a slicker brush on the coat except for getting the knots out, and don't let it touch the skin.
I'd also strongly suggest using a very mild hand made doggie soap. When you read all the ingredients in a dog shampoo it makes you wonder what your actually putting into their blood supply. Also the doggie soap has natural ingredients that repel fleas.
