What do you think of this company?
They recommend feeding once a day, would this be ok for her (she's 7 months now)?
Also, they have a choice between whole and ground foods. They say that ground foods are sometimes better for very small breeds that can't consume whole foods. What do you use? Have you found it hard for yorkies to comsume whole? Are the bones fine to give?
How have you found the cost in comparison to kibble?
Any other advice?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make the right choice! |
I have been feeding my dogs raw for 4-1/2 months.
I think - especially for smaller dogs, they should eat smaller meals twice a day.
Small dogs can and should eat whole raw meat very well. They don't need it ground. The bones are what will give them calcium and clean their teeth. (among other things) The bones are fine to give as long as they are raw.
My dogs eat chicken w/bone, cornish game hens w/bone, they eat beef, pork, beef heart, turkey (those bones may be a little hard for smaller dogs), ground lamb w/ground bone in it, hamburger, chicken backs, sometimes fish and organ meat. The organ meat is given in TINY amounts about once a week. If you give them too much, you won't like what comes out the other end.

It is ok to give them gound once in awhile but at that meal feed some bone too. Like a chicken back (or half of one) maybe.
As for cost - for the smaller dogs, it really isn't very expensive. They just don't eat that much. Mine eat between 1-3 oz. a day, each, depending on their weight.
You really don't need to go through a company to get the food - you can shop at the grocery store. It's always good to keep an eye out for good deals and stock up a little.
Sorry to be so long.... there is so much to talk about when feeding raw food.
I forgot to add that canines do not need vegetables. They can't digest them well. The plant fibers take a long time to digest and they have a short digestive system. They have teeth for tearing, not for chewing things like veggies and fruit. They are ok for treats sometimes, but they do not NEED them.
