That sounds like an anomaly, and I'd encourage you to contact NV. I've been feeding Marcel (3 pounds) NV and he's never had an issue, nor has Wy - my larger fella. Plus, I "shred" the medallions every morning (for a year now) and I've never seen a "fragment". So, it really might be worth reporting to NV.
