IMO, Race horses are only spoiled and very well cared for when they are champions/still useful to their owner.
I know a bit about horses - I rode for 8 years and worked around them for about 6 of those 8. I still go occasionally, but I gave up going very often because I started voice lessons.
This is a post I made on another forum about this very subject:
I've never supported horse racing, and that's exactly why. Horses live to be 30+, but when they are race horses they are broke and ridden TOO hard WAY too early. When they start training them, their bones aren't even fully hardened and formed yet. It results in accidents like that, and an incredible animal loses a chance to have a normal life, if any life at all.
The only horse race I've ever even watched was the one when Barbaro was injured, and that just devestated me and reinforced my disliking for it. Horses are incredible, majestic animals. They deserve more than being locked in trailers and stalls going from race to race - only being appreciated when they become champions and make their owners money.
Horse racing is a very hot topic for me. |
