i actually did contact the KONG company shortly after i posted about this and this is what they said:

so i guess they were having problems. they sent me 2 new cans and bunch of coupons and info.
but i still think they're runnier than before... oh well...
but the good news is that i found this thing called "doggie daiquiri" at a local doggie cafe so i use that as a kong stuffer.
it smells wonderful and it has less fat!
