I put him in heavy oil and left his hair down, no matts but he lost about 1/2 inch of coat at the bottom in the middle. Now he is in heavy oil and only has 2 bands holding all of the hair very loosely up on his back, so far no matts and I'm not noticing much breakage. For Connor it has to be up off of the floor but the less bands the better as they rub and break his hair. My first show dog had to have the most difficult coat of course. After this the rest will seem like a breeze, right? Good luck in the never ending search for the best way to keep your gal in show coat!

Tami, U sound like me trying this and that..I can't use bands on none of mine now for their bangs, broke Sofies so I went back to scrunchies, they don't break thier coat...I'm new to all this too. But right now I'm learning about the oil and so far I like it, I took Weezie and Teddy out of the oil as they have cottony coats and theirs is in pretty good shape anyways for cottony coated Yorkies...Sage, Sofie and Galahad is still in oil, I'm bathing them every 4 days and Teddy and Weezie once a week...I'm trying to get a routine down as far as baths...Bath one a day..For some silly reason Teddys and Weeizies isn't matting like they normally do...They are so easy to brush through.

Sofie is my matter God love her and Sage gets the little tiny knots on the very ends of her coat that's all hers does. Galahads' doesn't matt any but his head was so very dry, now since in oil does seem to help him even tho he still has to rub it off.

Sofie God love her is still in her 1st heat & still spotting and not keeping herself very clean as Sage did...I'm having trouble keeping her clean between her legs, her coat is getting dirty from dripping and it is wanting to matt badly there, so I take a wash cloth with water only and wipe her down ever so softly between her legs on and off all day long to try to help her matting and keep her cleaner. Gals what to do with them? Any thoughts?
