| Knowing that plastics are petroleom based is pretty gross. Plastics with BPA and Phthalates are the one to look out for. BPA has been found to leech into our foods and drinks [plastic containers/bottles] and has toxic developmental, nueral, and reproductive effects.
It has been found to be a hormone disrupter (mimics estrogen), linked to breast and prostate cancers, and linked to obesity, diabetes among many other things.
Phthalates are what makes plastic 'flexible'. It is cheap to make and are produced for use in a wide variety of products [cosmetics, lotion, paint, etc]. Phthalates are a probable human carcinogen [cancer causing] and linked to kidney/liver damage among many other things.
Since plastics are not biodegradable, it photodegrades into smaller toxic bits, contaminating the soil and water and entering the food chain.
You should avoid as much plastic as possible as there's no such thing as a safe plastic.
Glass and stainless steel hold water and food just as wonderfully.
