I think a good contract protects the pup, buyer and breeder. No single contract has everything but there are a few things I would run from.
I have the most problems with contracts that only give 48 hours for disease.
Then if the pup comes down with parvo 4 days after receiving it your not covered.
But I also think a new pup should be kept at home inside until all its shots are complete. Thats a new owners responsibility.
I also don't like having to return your pup for an exchange. If the pup is being well loved and cared for it should be allowed to stay, and a refund should be given to help cover expenses. But the breeder should be notified immediately and given the chance for a 2nd opinion too.
I think most serious illness will show up or can be screened for by a year of age, except PRA. So I would want at least 6 months to a year. |
