We feed three times a day until the puppies start to ignore one of the meals and then we drop it to twice a day until they're about a year old and then we feed once a day. Many Yorkie breeders/owners continue to feed 2X/day for life. A 6 pound adult gets about 1/3 - 1/2 cup of kibble (or the equivalent - we feed raw) per day. 1-1/2 cups sounds like an awful lot.

What you need to know is whether or not he is overweight. You should be able to feel, but not see his ribs. Feel his chest and run your hand over his ribs to see if there's fat there. It's not likely that a 4-month old is fat, however.
