When Archie was a puppy, he kept me up at nights about every two hours. My admin assistant at the time suggested that I cover his crate with a pillow case so he couldn't see out -- like covering up a bird cage at night. The cozy darkness made him settle down and he began to sleep through the night. You might try this with his crate so that when you put him back in after his potty break, he'll realize that it's still "sleepy time" and he needs to be quiet.
