Maybe you could re-train layla to accept the nail clipping again by making it fun and with treats. See is she then would be ok with a very coarse emery board to just file on them each week after a bath. That's what I do because I'm too afraid of cutting the quick with the clipper.

i never thought to do it after a bath.. does that make it easier??

Ever since i started with the dremmel, i've had a bag of treats next to me... she just eats it.. and keeps on squirming and yelping.
