I've had a colposcopy and biopsy twice for low grade cell changes. Now my paps are completely normal all on their own so they aren't quite sure what caused it.

I've heard that it can be painful, but let me tell you I am the biggest baby about pain and I was totally fine! I didn't feel anything being cut, it just felt like another pap to me and it was over. The worst part was worrying about it!

I think people finding out they have abnormal paps is more common now because they are testing for more, even my mother who's in her 40s and has never had an irregular pap had one last year. Hers were more high grade and they removed the cells and now she's fine.

ETA -- I also never had any cramping or bleeding after the biopsy but I think it depends how much tissue they take.
