If you can bathe her comfortably, I'd do it. She will get messy with the birth, so its nice to have her clean to start with. I use pee pads in my whelping pen. After each pup I can wrap it up and throw it away with all the mess, and with a new pad underneath, we are ready for the next puppy. Keeps everyone cleaner and cuts down on the laundry. Towels work too of course.

I also buy 2 or 3 yards of fleece fabric, cut it in half and wash. These provide a soft flat surface for the bed. I've never had a puppy get lost in the folds, and the fleece is warm also. When my puppies go to their new homes I send one of these blankets with them so they have a familiar smell and feel.

You'll feel better after you see the vet and have an xray.
