I did some research on the Internet and was surprised at how many articles I found that suggested ignoring dogs who bark for attention and then reward them when they are quiet. This takes A LOT of patience. The articles also said that barking for attention is a learned behavior that owners reinforce by giving them what they want. However, I have the same dilemma as someone else mentioned: he barks to let me know he needs to potty, which is something I don't want to ignore.

I'm getting ready to take Logan on a 10-day trip with me, and I'm concerned about him barking at night at other people's houses. I want to try ignoring him (I also read that scolding or any negative attention is still attention and reinforces the barking), but that may make everyone else miserable

I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!
