Well thats why I asked where you live but now I see your in TN. My dad lives in Calvert City KY and is an Avid bird of prey fan. He is one of those that can see one soaring miles up it appears ad tell ya what it is. Okay this is gonna sound dumb but an easy way to narrow what hawk you have or at least a group is look at its legs...if its feathered down the leg or not that can narrow it down. Cooper Hawks are a smaller hawk but they are one spieces that hunt for "fun of the kill" not because they are hungry. they have a cream colored belly and are not all that big compared to a red shoulder. Red Shoulders and Red Tails are VERY common but are lazy (which is good news) they prefer roadkill then to hunt It would be great if you can narrow it down that wy you can read up on the net and find out hunting patterns and how much risk there really is. You have me curious now ill help ya figure out what ya have if you describe him Let me know! I LOVE birds! Oh just encase, if you have feeders Hawks LOVE to prey on feeders as they attract Mourning Doves (not too smart of a bird and easy kill) and sparrows
