I thought I had read on here, or on a website that you are not supposed to try and breed past 3 days, because if the female gets pregnant on day one, and then you breed her again 3 days later, that she can get pregnant with another puppy, and there would be a better chance of that puppy not surviving because it will not be in the Mother as long as the puppies that were conceived 3 days earlier. Is that true???
Yes, that is true. Conception can occur throughout the middle of the heat cycle (week two )and pups conceived towards the end will of course have less time in utero than those concieved at the beginning..
I would suggest you count 59 days from the first tie to get the earlier due date and then schedule a vet appt. for x-rays about a week before that date. They will be able to determine size and amount of babies. Very important to know that she will be able to free whelp or if she will need C-section and also good to know when she is done whelping/ all pups accounted for. Start reading up on whelping and complications so you are prepared for the birth day. good luck. |
